Various
Vinyl Is Better

Listening notes

Released in 1994, "Vinyl Is Better" is a various artists compilation issued by Kniteforce Records under catalog number KF CD 001. The format is CD, and the release sits across several genre classifications: Breakbeat, Electronic, Happy Hardcore, Hardcore, and Jungle — a combination that reflects the busy and often overlapping currents running through UK underground dance music at that moment.

The title carries a certain self-aware irony given the format. Kniteforce Records was primarily a vinyl label operating within the hardcore and jungle scenes, and releasing a CD compilation called "Vinyl Is Better" gestures at that identity even while stepping outside it.

The disc runs twelve tracks with a total runtime in the region of seventy-five minutes. Track lengths are substantial throughout, with most falling between five and seven minutes. "Can't You See" is the longest at 7:38, followed closely by "Green Eggs And..." at 7:27. "Most Uplifting" runs 6:46, and "We're Flying," credited as a Vibes and Wishdokta Remix, comes in at 6:05. "Knite In Paradise" appears here in a Sublove Remix, suggesting at least some tracks on the compilation existed in other forms elsewhere. The shortest track, "Escape," still clears five minutes at 5:14.

Track titles such as "High On Life," "Sky High," and "Most Uplifting" are consistent with the vocabulary common to Happy Hardcore and related strains of the era, though no claims about the content of these tracks are made here.

KF CD 001 is the label's first catalogued CD release, placing this compilation at what appears to be an early point in Kniteforce's documented discography on that format.
