Vinyl Moon Volume 002: Familiar Mystery

Listening notes

Vinyl Moon Volume 002: Familiar Mystery arrived in 2015 as the second installment in the subscription-based Vinyl Moon series, a curatorial project built around releasing compilations of independent and emerging artists on vinyl. The volume carries the subtitle Familiar Mystery, a title that gestures toward the range of sounds gathered across its ten tracks.

The record spans a broad stylistic territory, catalogued under genres including alternative rock, electronic, indie rock, pop, rock, and synth-pop. That spread is reflected in the tracklist itself, which moves through titles like "Wildlife," "Dissolve," and "Dreamphone" on its way across two sides. Side A opens with "Don't Fight It" and closes with a remix — "Lost (Noah Hyde Remix)" — suggesting at least some engagement with electronic reworking as part of the compilation's editorial voice. Side B runs from "Dissolve" through to "The Last Ones Standing," a closing title that carries a certain finality in name if nothing else.

As a various artists release, the record functions as a sampler by design, assembling contributors under a single curatorial umbrella rather than representing any single act's body of work. The Vinyl Moon model, built around monthly subscription deliveries of vinyl compilations, positions each volume as a self-contained introduction to artists the label considers worth hearing.

Volume 002 contains ten tracks across two sides with no durations listed in available documentation. It was released on the Vinyl Moon label under the catalog designation Volume 002.
