Vinyl Moon Volume 050: Volume Fifty

Listening notes

Vinyl Moon Volume 050, released in 2019 on the Vinyl Moon label under catalog number Volume 050, marks the fiftieth installment in the subscription-based compilation series. The release carries the subtitle "Volume Fifty," an acknowledgment of the milestone represented by reaching that number in the series. Its format is listed as Vinyl, Vinyl, All Media, and its genres span Electronic, Indie Pop, Indie Rock, Pop, and Rock.

The release is a double LP, spread across four sides and comprising twenty-two tracks. Side A opens with "Future Now" at 3:23 and runs through five additional selections, closing with "Say, Can You Hear" at 3:09. Side B follows a similar structure, beginning with "Losing My Head" and concluding with "Restless" at 3:55. Side C moves from "Side-eye" through to "Eha," the latter running 5:15 and standing as one of the longer entries on the record. Side D carries the compilation to its conclusion with four tracks, ending on "Spindles (Vinyl Moon Edit)" at 6:06, which is identified specifically as a Vinyl Moon edit and is the longest track on the release.

Total runtime across the four sides is substantial, with several tracks exceeding four minutes and the final two selections on Side D each surpassing six minutes. The genre listing reflects a broad curatorial scope, pulling from across the contemporary independent and electronic landscape. The presence of a label-commissioned edit on the closing track suggests some degree of direct curatorial or production involvement by Vinyl Moon in shaping the final sequence.
