VinylArt: Années 80

Listening notes

Released in 2020 on Wagram Music, VinylArt: Années 80 (catalog number 3374876) is a vinyl compilation drawing from the French chanson and pop output of the 1980s. Twelve tracks are spread across two sides, presenting a cross-section of the era's French-language popular music alongside a small number of tracks recorded in English.

Side A opens with "Boys (Summertime Love)" and moves through titles that will be familiar to anyone with a passing interest in French pop from the period: "Les Brunes Comptent Pas Pour Des Prunes," "Les Démons De Minuit," "Partenaire Particulier," and "Confidence Pour Confidence." The side closes with "Don Quichotte (No Están Aqui)," a title that signals some linguistic range within the compilation's French-pop framing.

Side B shifts register slightly. "Just an Illusion" and "Concrete & Clay" are English-language entries that sit alongside French titles including "Voyage Voyage," "Macumba," "Africa," and "C'est La Ouate." The sequencing places these alongside one another without apparent concern for strict genre or language boundaries, which reflects the broader, loosely defined scope suggested by the Années 80 label.

As a various artists release, the compilation does not center on any single performer, instead organizing itself around a shared time period and the twin genre designations of chanson and pop. Track durations are not listed in the available documentation.

VinylArt: Années 80 is a straightforward archival exercise in the Wagram Music catalog, presenting a fixed set of period titles in vinyl format for an audience with an existing interest in French popular music of that decade. Prospective buyers should verify performer credits and exact track details independently before purchase.
