VernoN (12)
Riot EP

Listening notes

The Riot EP arrives in 2019 under the Undersound Recordings imprint, catalogued as USR012, and represents a four-track vinyl release from the artist known as VernoN (12). Spanning the acid house and broader electronic genres, the record organises its material across two sides with a consistent attention to running time, the shortest track clearing five and a half minutes and the longest approaching seven.

Side A opens with "Scuffle," a six-minute cut, before giving way to the title track "Riot," which runs to six minutes and fifty-two seconds and stands as the longest piece on the record. The sequencing places the EP's namesake in a prominent closing position on the first side, a structural choice that gives the title some weight before the listener turns the record over.

Side B opens with "Don't Be A Slave (Consumerism Mix)," a track whose parenthetical subtitle signals that this particular version is one iteration among potentially others, though no further versions are documented in the available information. At five minutes and thirty-four seconds it is the briefest entry across both sides. The EP closes with "Assault," which runs six minutes and forty-eight seconds, bringing the total programme to just over twenty-five minutes of material.

The track titles taken together — Scuffle, Riot, Don't Be A Slave, Assault — suggest a thematic consistency oriented around confrontation and resistance, though what the artist intended by this grouping is not documented here. The acid house genre designation situates the release within a lineage of electronic music with roots in the late 1980s, though how VernoN (12) engages with that tradition is a matter for closer examination than this summary can provide.
