Blair Necessities

Listening notes

Blair Necessities is a CD released by Vinyl Blair on the Hard Hands label in 1995, carrying the catalog number HAND 022CD. The release spans eight tracks across genres that include downtempo, electro, electronic, and techno.

The album opens with "Mazzoslamma" at 7:43, setting a pace that the subsequent tracks sustain across a runtime weighted toward extended compositions. "Chill Filter" follows at 6:34, and "Snow White" is the shortest entry on the record at 5:21. "Wild Turkey" runs 7:25, and "Dubble Bubble" clocks in at 7:03. "Space Bud 1995," the sixth track, carries its release year directly in its title and runs 6:58.

The final two tracks are both versions of "The Trancespotter." The first is subtitled "VB's Martians At Work Remix" and runs 8:12, while the second, "The Original TNT Groove Mix," is the longest track on the release at 10:36. The inclusion of two distinct mixes of the same track as the closing sequence is a structural choice consistent with club-oriented release formats of the period, where alternate versions were commonly packaged together.

In total the record runs well over an hour, with no track falling under five minutes. The genre tags — downtempo alongside electro and techno — suggest a release comfortable spanning more than one corner of the mid-1990s electronic music landscape, though the precise character of each track is a matter for listeners to assess directly.
