Vinyl Junkie
Drive Me Crazy / Good Times

Listening notes

Vinyl Junkie's 1997 single "Drive Me Crazy / Good Times" is a two-track release issued on the artist's own Junkie Vinyl label, catalogued as JVR 003. The record presents itself as a double A-side, a format that treats both tracks as primary offerings rather than positioning one as a conventional B-side.

The release sits within the electronic and happy hardcore genres, a pairing that locates it firmly within a specific moment in mid-to-late 1990s club culture, when happy hardcore had established itself as a distinct strand of UK dance music. Whether "Drive Me Crazy / Good Times" represented an early, mid, or late entry in Vinyl Junkie's discography is not immediately clear from the catalog number alone, though JVR 003 does suggest this was among the label's initial output.

"Drive Me Crazy" runs to five minutes and thirty-seven seconds, while "Good Times" comes in slightly shorter at five minutes and twenty-six seconds. The two tracks are closely matched in length, giving the release a balanced feel on paper, with a combined playing time of just over eleven minutes across both sides.

The decision to release on a self-operated imprint, Junkie Vinyl, reflects a pattern common to the independent dance music scene of the period, in which artists and collectives frequently established their own infrastructure for releasing material outside of larger commercial structures. Beyond what the label name and catalog number suggest, the specifics of how Junkie Vinyl operated remain outside the scope of the verified information available here.
