Vinyl Junkie Feat. Martina (7) / Sy & Unknown
Anyone / Top Tune (Vinyl Junkie Remix)

Listening notes

Released in 1998 on Junkie Vinyl, catalog number JVR 004, this split single pairs two acts working within the electronic and happy hardcore genres. The A-side, "Anyone," is credited to Vinyl Junkie featuring Martina, while the AA-side presents "Top Tune (Vinyl Junkie Remix)" from Sy and Unknown. The double-A designation on the flip side suggests both tracks were positioned as lead material rather than a conventional b-side arrangement.

The release sits within the happy hardcore scene of the late 1990s, a period when the genre was generating considerable output across specialist UK labels. Junkie Vinyl, operating under the JVR prefix, places this at the fourth entry in that catalog sequence, indicating an active if modestly scaled release program. The label name and catalog branding reflect a self-aware identity common among independent dance imprints of the era, where genre loyalty and niche community were frequently built into the label's presentation itself.

Vinyl Junkie's appearance on both sides of this record, as a featured act on the A-side and as the remixer credited on the AA-side, points to a central creative role within this particular release. The inclusion of Martina as a featured vocalist on "Anyone" adds a named performer to that track, while Sy and Unknown bring a separate artist credit to the remix side, giving the single a collaborative character across its two tracks.

No track durations are documented for either side. As a 1998 vinyl release in a specialist genre on an independent label, this single represents a characteristic example of how happy hardcore material reached its audience during that period — pressed to vinyl and distributed through dedicated channels serving a defined fanbase.
