Wicked Vinyl 12

Listening notes

Wickedsquad's Wicked Vinyl 12 is a self-released twelve-inch from 2015, issued without a commercial label under the catalog designation that shares its name with the record itself. The release sits at the intersection of electronic music, freetekno, and ragga, a combination that reflects the cross-pollination of styles that has long characterized independent dance music scenes operating outside mainstream distribution channels.

The record carries four tracks across its two sides. The A-side opens with "Marijuana," running just under six minutes at 5:55, followed by "ProblemPolitician" at 6:14, giving the first side a total of over twelve minutes of material. The B-side is slightly more compact: "Milkshake" clocks in at 4:23, and the closing track, "Bubblin," runs 5:10 and features Kinetical MC, the sole credited collaborator named anywhere on the release.

The not-on-label designation is a recognized category within independent vinyl culture, typically applied to releases pressed and distributed outside of any formally registered imprint. This approach is common within freetekno communities in particular, where self-sufficiency and independence from commercial infrastructure are often central values. The genre tag itself, freetekno, refers to a movement associated with free parties and autonomous sound systems, predominantly rooted in European underground scenes.

At roughly twenty-two minutes of total runtime, the record is modest in scope but consistent with the format conventions of twelve-inch dance releases. The catalog number doubling as the title is a practical identifier that keeps the release traceable in record databases without requiring a separate label structure.
