Yellow Magic Orchestra
Naughty Boys: Collector's Vinyl Edition

Listening notes

Yellow Magic Orchestra's "Naughty Boys: Collector's Vinyl Edition" was released in 2019 on the Alfa label under catalog number MHJL 86~87. The release presents the material across two records, organized into four sides, with a total of ten tracks spanning genres cataloged as electro, electronic, pop, and synth-pop.

The sequencing spreads the program across the four sides in a fairly balanced manner. Side A opens with "Kimi Ni Mune Kyun (Uwaki Na Bakansu)" at four minutes and five seconds, followed by "Expected Way" at four minutes and thirty-three seconds. Side B carries three tracks: "Focus" at three minutes and forty seconds, "Ongaku" at three minutes and twenty-five seconds, and "Opened My Eyes" at three minutes and thirty-nine seconds. Side C begins with the notably brief "You've Got to Help Yourself," clocking in at just thirty seconds, before moving into "Lotus Love" at four minutes and four seconds and "Kai-Koh" at four minutes and twenty-six seconds. Side D closes the set with "Expecting Rivers" at four minutes and thirty-seven seconds and "Wild Ambitions," the program's longest selection, at five minutes and eleven seconds.

The double-LP format and the "Collector's Vinyl Edition" designation in the title suggest this was positioned as a dedicated vinyl release rather than a standard reissue, though the specific circumstances surrounding its 2019 publication are not detailed here. Collectors and researchers interested in the YMO catalog on vinyl will find this entry under the Alfa imprint, with the MHJL 86~87 catalog number serving as the primary identifier for verification purposes.
