Yellow Magic Orchestra
Service: Collector's Vinyl Edition

Listening notes

Yellow Magic Orchestra's Service: Collector's Vinyl Edition was released in 2019 on the Alfa label under catalog number MHJL 90~91. The release is a double LP, its fourteen tracks spread across four sides.

The release carries an unusual genre classification, listed under Comedy, Electronic, Non-Music, and Synth-pop. That combination is worth noting on its own terms. The presence of Non-Music and Comedy alongside Electronic and Synth-pop suggests the original release was understood as something more than a straightforward studio album, though the specifics of that context are beyond what this edition's catalog data alone can confirm.

A recurring structural feature of the tracklist is worth observing directly. A track titled S.E.T. appears seven times across the four sides, at positions A2, A4, B2, C3, D2, and D4, with durations ranging from fifty seconds to four minutes and twenty-two seconds. A separate track at C1 is titled S.E.T. + YMO and runs five minutes and fifty-four seconds. Whether these represent variations, interludes, or something else entirely is not established by the available data, but the repetition is a defining structural fact of the sequencing.

The remaining named tracks are Limbo, The Madmen, Chinese Whispers, You've Got To Help Yourself, Shadows On The Ground, See-Through, and Perspective. Total running time across all four sides is substantial, with Side D alone accounting for just over thirteen and a half minutes across its four tracks.

As a 2019 vinyl edition designated Collector's Vinyl Edition, the release sits within a broader pattern of catalog reissues, though what specifically distinguishes this edition from any prior release of the same material is not confirmed by the data provided here and should be verified before publication.
