Yellow Magic Orchestra
増殖 X∞Multiplies: Collector's Vinyl Edition

Listening notes

Yellow Magic Orchestra's 増殖 X∞Multiplies received a Collector's Vinyl Edition release in 2019 on the Alfa label, catalog number MHJL 64~65. The release is spread across two records, with sides A through D containing twelve tracks in total.

The genre classifications assigned to this release are unusually broad and in themselves tell a story about the album's character: alongside Electronic, Synth-pop, and Pop, the record is also tagged as Comedy, Non-Music, and Parody. That range reflects a structural reality visible in the tracklist itself. Snakeman Show segments appear five times across the four sides, at positions B1, B3, C1, C3, and D2, functioning as recurring interludes between the musical tracks. The presence of comedy duo material woven through a YMO release was a deliberate compositional choice, and the tracklist makes that integration plain.

The musical tracks vary considerably in running time. "Citizens Of Science" at 4:30 is the longest track on the record, while the opening "Jingle 'YMO'" runs just twenty seconds. "Nice Age" occupies the entirety of Side A after that jingle, clocking in at 3:46. Side B introduces the Snakeman Show format alongside "Tighten Up (Japanese Gentlemen Stand Up Please)" and the brief "Here We Go Again - Tighten Up" at 1:08. Side D closes the record with "Multiplies," a longer Snakeman Show segment at 3:47, and "The End Of Asia" at 1:31.

The two-LP format and the Collector's Vinyl Edition designation indicate this 2019 pressing was positioned as a reissue product rather than a standard catalog reprint, though the verified facts available here do not speak to specifics of packaging, liner notes, or pressing details.
