Yellow Magic Orchestra
Yellow Magic Orchestra: US Version: Standard Vinyl Edition

Listening notes

Yellow Magic Orchestra's self-titled debut appeared in multiple configurations, and this 2018 release from Great Tracks (2) documents one of the more historically significant variants: the US Version. Issued under catalog number MHJL 56, this standard vinyl edition presents the album in the specific track sequence and selection that defined how the record was configured for the American market, as distinct from other regional releases.

The nine-track sequence across two sides opens with "Computer Game 'Theme From The Circus'" on side A, followed by "Firecracker," "Simoon," and "Cosmic Surfin'," before closing the first side with "Computer Game 'Theme From The Invader.'" Side B carries "Yellow Magic (Tong Poo)," "La Femme Chinoise," "Bridge Over Troubled Music," and "Mad Pierrot." The presence of two discrete "Computer Game" pieces — one anchoring each side — is a structural detail that distinguishes this running order from other editions of the album.

Cataloged under the genres of Electro, Electronic, and Synth-pop, the release reflects the broad stylistic territory the album occupies. The Great Tracks (2) label is the issuing body for this 2018 pressing.

No track durations are currently listed in the available documentation for this edition. Researchers and collectors seeking complete matrix, pressing, or personnel information for this specific release should consult additional primary sources, as those details fall outside what is verified here.
