Listening notes

Detroit House Party Piano Blues is a 1982 vinyl release on JSP Records, catalog number 1041, credited to Emmett Lee Brooks / James Barnes (3). Filed under Blues, Boogie Woogie, and Piano Blues, the album presents a two-sided program with seven tracks on side A and six on side B.

Side A opens with Emmet Brooks Boogie No. 1 and continues with Cincinatti Rocks, Rollin' Boogie, Junior's Boogie, and Detroit Slow Boogie, before returning to the eponymous theme with Emmet Brooks Boogie No. 2. The side closes with After Hours. The titling on this side emphasizes boogie-oriented pieces and includes recurring references to “Emmet Brooks” within two numbered selections, as well as geographically tagged and thematic titles such as Detroit Slow Boogie.

Side B begins with Pinetop's Boogie Woogie and then features a pair of numbered titles linked to the second credited artist: James Barnes Boogie No. 1 and James Barnes Boogie No. 2. The sequence continues with Double Boogie and concludes with two parts titled Black Gal 1 and Black Gal 2. As on side A, several tracks employ numbered or paired titles, and the side includes another widely recognized boogie-woogie title by name.

Across both sides, the tracklist mixes eponymous and descriptive titles, including multiple “boogie” designations and two-part pieces. The artist credit places Emmett Lee Brooks alongside James Barnes (3), reflecting the presence of titles explicitly associated with each name. No track durations are provided in the listing.
